We tend to focus on the medicinal, religious and recreational value of marijuana but what about its value to our skin? With decriminalisation taking place all over the Caribbean, there is a bubbling and fast-rising industry called the CBD Skin Care (Cannabeauty) industry. CBD oil can work well on the skin, the same way it is useful when taken inside the body. If you want to be a part of the buzz, there is no need to rush off and try smoking. Here is another way to indulge...try including it into your  skincare routine!

What is CBD oil?

According to the US National Library of Medicine, Cannabidiol is a chemical in the Cannabis sativa plant, also known as marijuana or hemp. Of the two strains of the Cannabis sativa plant, Hemp is the preferred choice for CBD as Hemp has significantly lower levels of THC.  THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that is primarily responsible for the feeling of being “high,” which users experience when consuming marijuana.

So what does CBD do to your skin? Many people are embracing CBD oil products for skin because it is a rich source of Vitamin D and can help to fight breakouts and inflammation. Let’s look at some of the benefits that you can enjoy by adding CBD oil products to your skincare routine.

Cures Acne
Many of us suffer from acne, a skin condition that arises when dead skin cells, dirt, or excess oil accumulate clogging pores. Bacteria that lives in hair follicles multiply due to the clogged pores which leads to inflammation, causing blemishes on your skin. CBD oil targets the cells that activate acne and reduces its effects on acne prone skin. It targets only the problem causing cells and as such it allows your skin to heal without experiencing any form of irritation or dryness.

Helps with Dry Skin
CBD oil products have anti-inflammatory properties as well as moisturising healing benefits. It has a perfect blend of nutrients and substances that will nourish and moisturise your skin. CBD oil doesn't affect the functioning of sebaceous glands.Instead, it interacts with your skin glands regulating the production of oil —by helping your skin prevent the overproduction of oil and also helping dry skin to increase oil production.

Reduces Signs of Aging Skin
As you age your skin shows signs of dullness and wrinkles. CBD oil plays a vital role in keeping your skin hydrated and healthy. Its antioxidant properties reduces the visible signs of aging. Hemp plants that produce CBD oil contain two fatty acids, Omega 6 and Omega  — both stimulate the production of collagen and thus prevents excessive water loss. This results in keeping your skin hydrated and youthful.

Manages Eczema and alleviates Psoriasis
Although eczema is very common, there is no permanent cure. This condition causes the skin to crack, turn red, itch and become inflamed. CBD oil is one of the few effective options for managing eczema since it contains anti-inflammatory properties with little to no side effects.
Psoriasis is an autoimmune illness that attacks healthy skin cells and it can cause a lot of pain to the person suffering from it. The anti-inflammatory feature of CBD oil is crucial in soothing Psoriasis.

I find it amazing that using CBD oil in skincare can help treat skin conditions and fight signs of aging. One of my friends is looking for suggestions on how to deal with facial wrinkles. I'll share this with her and recommend that she try out CBD for her skin along with perfume!
