Number 1 is a must do on your list! BY CEVEL REGIS We are in the middle of November and believe it or not 2019 is almost over. For some of us it was a very difficult year, for others not so bad, but if you’re reading this means you made it out alive...thankfully! With the Christmas season in full swing, a lot of us let life’s challenges influence us to feel scrooge-like and down. This is the season to laugh, eat, relax and spend quality time with the ones you hold dear. It’s on this premise that I remind you of the importance of female friendships, especially at Christmas time. From an early age I discovered the importance of fostering female friendships. Having a significant other that you can communicate and share a special bond with is extremely important but you should always leave a little room for your girlfriends. These friendships are an essential and cherished part of your life and require intentional time and attention. This Christmas season you should make the extra effort to celebrate with the females (sisters, cousins, daughters, mothers, friends) in your life that you cherish and love. Here are a few ideas for you and your girls to do together this Christmas season. Number 1 is a must do on your list! 1. Go to a Parang Concert
It’s no secret that Trini Christmas is the best and we celebrate this season like no other in the world. Part of this great experience is our unique parang and soca parang music. It’s a must that you and your girls head out to at least one Christmas concert to set the mood for the entire season. Luckily for you, Incredible Myron B will be hosting his annual Backyard Parang Jam at the Black Box on December 1st, 2019 from 5pm to 10pm. He will be performing with his live band and also hitting the stage are some of our absolute favourite soca parang men —Rome, Rembunction and Ronoman. To keep you dancing all night long there will be performances by parang bands as well. The event is eats inclusive (ham, pastelle and black cake) and it takes place in an intimate backyard setting. Be sure to check out the event page or call 483 -3847 for more information. 2. Helping Hands Party There is no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than giving to others. You and your girlfriends can put together bags of "goodies" and distribute them to those less fortunate as a group. This is a great way to bond with each other while at the same time giving Christmas cheer to those who need it most. 3. Christmas Potluck In the Caribbean we all love good food! Plan a day where you all can get together, family members included, and each person bring a dish. It does not have to stop at food, holiday cocktails are guaranteed to add an extra special vibe to the party!
